The Splendour of the Canals

Collection

“When you are open to others, you prosper”

The story

Own a piece of Amsterdam history

The Amsterdam Monster Factory is a non-profit organisation that tells the open-minded histories of Amsterdam — and the prosperity that comes to the city from being open to others. It does so through public art, augmented reality storytelling, and schools education. Launched during the 750th anniversary of Amsterdam, it is now a permanent legacy project of the city celebrations.

Supported by the City of Amsterdam, we have created a limited edition collection of artworks from the city's canal wall bricks and monumental bridge timber taken from the UNESCO World Heritage Canal Belt. Each collection is limited to 750 numbered pieces, the proceeds of which support the work of the Amsterdam Monster Factory.

The first edition tells the open-minded history of the Prinsengracht, Amsterdam's best-known canal. It includes a specially commissioned artwork telling the visual story of the Prinsengracht — printed on a piece of monumental wood from Bridge No. 41 in the canal belt — and an engraved and restored canal wall brick, recently rescued from the canal wall renovation in the city.
